Winemaker Kate Petering

Kate Petering

Winemaker

Kate joined the Mount Langi Ghiran winemaking team in 2006 after working several vintages in the northern hemisphere.  She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from Australia and overseas to this iconic cool climate winery.

She began studying winemaking at the Adelaide University in 2001 and graduated three years later.  This led to working vintages at Orlando Wyndham and St Hallett in the Barossa Valley.

From here Kate wanted to further develop her skills and took off overseas.  In 2005 she worked a vintage in Burgundy, France for a biodynamic winemaker by the name of Jean-Claude Boisset and fell in love with Pinot Noir.

She travelled Europe and further expanded her knowledge by working for the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society in Edinburgh.  It was here that she met Dan Buckle and was invited to move back to Australia and join the Mount Langi Ghiran team.

Since then Kate has taken the opportunity to expand her winemaking skills by working vintages in the northern hemisphere in Bordeaux and Champagne in 2006; Provenance
Vineyards in the Napa Valley, USA in 2009; Fattoria Zerbina in Emilia-Romagna, Italy the following year;  and Domain Gerin in Cote Rotie and the Rhone Valley in France in 2009.

Since Dan Buckle’s departure in 2012, Kate has utilised her knowledge of the region and winemaking experiences here and overseas to continue the tradition of producing exceptional quality wines from the iconic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyards.
