Langi Old Block, the source of the ‘Langi Shiraz’ is a very special site. Planted in 1963, the vines deliver fruit of extreme complexity, deeply evocative aromas and flavours, and stunning fineness. Old Block was picked in 10 different parcels, and each bunch was hand selected – all with the aim of capturing the uniqueness and nuance of each section of the block.
Our Hillcrest section, known as the heart of Old Block, exemplifies our endeavour to coax the very best out of our vineyards. This year, Hillcrest produced only one glorious barrel! This precise and detailed approach to the Old Block calls upon a great deal of historical data, research, knowledge and intuition. It also reflects a new chapter of progression and exploration at Mount Langi Ghiran.
While Shiraz vines cover more than 80% of our vineyard, this vintage was also the opportunity to further explore the potential of other grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera and Chardonnay etc… So watch this space for extra limited releases.
