Tasting Notes

Colour
Deep red with purple hues.
Nose
Initially showing an endearing restraint, this 2005 displays the most glorious evolution in the glass after a few minutes, then hours. A very focused and highly defined core of fruit; plush red and blackberries with a warmly engaging blue spectrum. Concentrated and pure.
Palate
Soft, chewy and silky, with a fine, crystalline acid bone that branches from its core and bounces all over the mouth bringing freshness and excitement. Lush, rolling fruit flows through the palate with focus and elegance. The balance and length is excellent and flavours are ever evolving. Alluring and complex in all its glory. A great Langi Shiraz. | CELLAR - A further 10 years.

Winemaking Notes
A typical Langi cool vintage with long ripening period developing terrific flavours. Made from parcels grown on the property at Mount Langi, with the majority from Old Vine fruit grown in the Old Block. Long cold soaks and gentle plunging have led to a wine with great tannic structure and length of palate. Careful selection of barrels from four specific French coopers has added layered spice and complexity to the wine without overshadowing the bright fruit elements. | Fermentation method - Open fermenters, hand plunged | Barrel Origin - 100% French oak barriques | Barrel Age - 45% new, 55% 1 year old | Time in Barrel - 14 months | Malolactic Fermentation - Complete – in barrel

WINNER of THE BIG RED WINE OF THE YEAR 2008. The supremely fragrant bouquet has a platform of black fruits so tightly laced with charcuterie, licorice, spice and black pepper that you can’t break free until you reach the mouth-watering, medium-bodied palate of exceptional length and balance. The mouthfeel is of silk with a velvet rim, radiating red and black cherry fruits with a drumbeat of flavours matching those of the bouquet.

Powerful purple colour; the same seamless flow of fruit, oak and tannins as in the preceding vintages; the flavours range through red cherry, blackberry, spice, pepper, tamed by lively acidity and fine tannins.

Deep red purple, very good colour. Clove-spice aroma, lots of spicy cool-climate but very ripe smells. Sweet fruit of a blueberry, raspberry and blackberry style, with spices and some oak. Medium- full bodied. Sweet fruit middle and back-palate is superb, although alcohol seems high and it has some almost jammy aspects in its flavour spectrum. Superb wine.

Mount Langi is a superstar estate with considerable pedigree and visionary winemaking in the form of Dan Buckle. This is one wine to serve blind when pouring a line-up of ultimate Shirazes – I can guarantee amazement when the label is revealed.

It’s juicy and sweet with blackcurrant, cherry, florals, pepper and an aniseed/flowering basil lift. All fragrant and spicy. On the palate medium to full bodied with cherry syrup, raspberry and spice flavours. It has ripe fine grained tannins, clean acidity and feels soft and gently textured – very delicious with a long spicy finish. Lovely wine but it needs more backbone and grip for higher points.

Saturated red colour. Seductive, expansive bouquet of redcurrant, raspberry, cherry-cola, fresh violet, Asian spices and smoky minerals. Fresh black raspberry and candied cherry flavours are tightened by youthful acidity and firmed by fine-grained tannins. A slightly sweet vanilla quality builds through the finish and melds smoothly with the deep red berry flavours. Displays good nervy precision, but I’d resist opening it for at leave another seven or eight years. Really lovely wine.

A multiple trophy winner, it’s fantastic to see this venerable Great Western shiraz back to its very best after losing its way a little in the early 2000’s. Made from vines planted in 1963, this classic cool-climate Victorian shiraz is deeply coloured with dark fruits, black pepper and other spice-rack aromas. Potent, yet balanced, it can be enjoyed now, but will continue to improve for the next 10 years or more.
