OUR SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH BEGINS IN THE VINEYARD — PROTECTING OUR LAND, SUPPORTING BIODIVERSITY AND REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT.
-
From the earliest days of Mount Langi Ghiran, sustainability has meant understanding our land deeply — its soils, climate, waterways and ecosystems. Today, as certified members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, we continue to build on that foundation, preserving biodiversity while minimising our environmental impact.
-
Our approach is grounded in practical, long‑term thinking: caring for our vines and soils, reducing inputs where possible, conserving water and energy, and protecting the native forests and wildlife that surround our estate. These commitments shape a cleaner, more resilient Mount Langi Ghiran.
OUR INITIATIVES INCLUDE:
Viticulture & Biodiversity
- Integrated Pest Management to minimise inputs and encourage natural biological control
- Low humidity climate and canopy management techniques naturally protect our vines from fungal diseases
- Continuous soil and vine health monitoring informing curated programs of organic preparations supporting biological function and plant resilience
- Optimising and conserving precious irrigation water
- Sheep to promote nutrient cycling and reduce need for machinery to manage pasture growth
- Preservation of native forests and planting species favoured by Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos
- Milling trellis posts from our own native timber plantation
Winery
- Type 2 Energy Audit driving meaningful efficiencies
- 99kW solar system installed in 2021 reducing energy grid consumption
- High-pressure cleaning equipment to reduce the volume of wastewater
- 1.25 million litres of rainwater collected each year for winery use
