Barbera has a charming history at Langi. When the Fratin brothers planted vines in 1969, they were captivated by the sentimental notion that it reminded them of home in Italy. Unable to find any Italian wine varieties they instead planted the local Shiraz vine. It was not until Trevor Mast decided to collect and plant Sangiovese in 1992 that Italian varieties finally found their place at Langi. Fruit was hand picked from our very small planting of Barbera on the highest site the estate – just two rows.

Tasting Notes

Medium-to-deep ruby
Dark plum and cherries with a hint of sarsaparilla
Savoury notes of dark olive tapenade, framed by a sour cherry profile. Acid line provides freshness to the palate, carrying the fruit flavours to a crunchy finish

750ml
Whole berry ferment in open fermenters, hand plunged. Aged for 15 months in 100% French oak.
